Model marketplace and router

INFRO vs OpenRouter

OpenRouter is the best-known unified endpoint for language models: one API key reaching a very large catalog of text models across providers, with routing and fallbacks between them. It is a mature, widely used product and the closest thing this category has to a default.

When OpenRouter is the better choice
  • You only need text models and want the broadest possible catalog, including long-tail and community models we do not carry.
  • You want a marketplace view — comparing providers and prices per model is the product, and some teams want exactly that.
  • You need it working this afternoon. It is live and self-serve; INFRO is not yet.

This section is not a courtesy. If one of these describes you, pick OpenRouter — a customer who adopts the wrong layer on our advice is worse for us than one we never had.

Where the two actually diverge.

Modality coverage is the first fork
OpenRouter's centre of gravity is language models. If your spend concentrates in image, video, or audio — which is where the money actually goes for media-heavy products — that traffic needs a second vendor, a second integration, and a second bill. INFRO's premise is that all four modalities belong behind one key and one usage record.
Marketplace versus infrastructure
A marketplace's job is to show you which provider served your request and what each one charges. Ours is the opposite: which upstream fulfilled a request is deliberately invisible, because we think choosing and monitoring providers is our problem, not something to hand back to the customer as a dashboard.
The org layer
Roles, per-project and per-key spend ceilings, model allowlists, and an audit trail are the things a platform team asks for before they will let a company standardise on anything. That is where INFRO puts its effort, and it is a different product surface from routing well.

Side by side.

Our column carries dashes too. A comparison where one side is all checks is one nobody believes, and rightly.
